Kulinary School is a media based education platform. A platform to learn. A platform to collaborate. A platform to inspire. Our goal is to inspire current and future generations in the foodservice industry. We’ll sit down with restaurant operators to discuss different topics in the foodservice world: challenges, inspirations, life lessons, marketing, technology, culinary, culture, advice to others and everything in between. Whether you’re a chef, growing emerging chain, non for profit, the local neighborhood bar, or you just love learning about food, our goal is to share your story to inspire others. We’re a community that brings foodservice operators together to help each other grow.
I started working in the foodservice industry back in 2011. It was my first day of my internship working for a cooking equipment manufacturing company. This is when I met the corporate chef. To this day, I still remember the first thing he ever said to me, “Are you sure you want to get into the foodservice industry? Because once you’re in, you’re in. You’ll never leave.” Fast forward to today, I’m still here. He was right. But it wasn’t the equipment that has kept me here, it’s been the people. People who have grown into mentors and friends. Coworkers and customers that I’ve built relationships with along the way. The thing that gets me up each morning is meeting new people. I love learning about new restaurants and the people who work there. Everyone of them has a story, and their story is still unfolding.
Throughout my career I’ve realized that many of the meetings I’ve attended have been the same. I’d meet with one restaurant where we’d work through challenges and try to solve them. Then I’d leave that meeting for the next one where it was the same routine, trying to solve issues that other restaurants have already overcome or in the process of trying to solve the same problem. Over time I noticed that restaurant operators expressed frustration that they wished they had a resource available to them where they could hear stories from other restaurant operators and how they dealt with their own issues. That’s when it hit me. I realized we need a community where restaurant operators could listen to their peers, learn from one another and connect with each other along the way. This is when the Kulinary School podcast was born…
